The green economy kills economy

Some days ago in our offices the Dyson Airblade hand dryer replaced the long used paper towels. I was quite pleased by this news, and the first thing I noticed was the absence of the usual mountains of paper that grew up in the bins every day, eventually invading the floor in the afternoon. Then, thinking that the direct use of electical power for drying hands is certainly more efficient than its use for transforming, transporting and scrapping paper, I wondered what might be the economic impact of the new hand dryer. By "googling" dyson airblade I've found Dyson's own estimates: If these figures are true, the Airblade has a payback of one year, meaning that while on the first year it has zero impact on the Gross Domestic Product, starting from the second year it has a negative impact on economic growth due to the savings it allows. The conclusion is predictable: the green economy, which is based on the pursue of efficiency and zero impact, goes against the traditional economy, where waste and all the bad things of life are accounted as positive contributors.
